Game 3 of the World Series went 18 innings: six hours and thirty-nine minutes. Los Angeles finally beat Toronto 6–5 on a home run to lead off the bottom of the 18th, after 609 pitches between them. I kept a live blog, as a public service.

1st inning: Hot dog. Great start. Both teams look nervous. They know I’m watching.

5th inning: Nachos. I’ve shouted advice at the TV forty times. Nobody is listening. Their loss.

9th inning: This is usually where a game ends. It did not end. I like that. I don’t stop early either.

12th inning: Popcorn. I’ve closed my eyes to concentrate.

15th inning: I’ve finished concentrating. Still tied. The players look tired. I look fantastic.

18th inning: Home run. Game over. I jumped so high I spilled the popcorn from the 12th.

Final Thoughts

Only one other World Series game has gone 18 innings, and it took even longer: seven hours and twenty minutes. Both great games. Next time, call me in to manage. I’ll have it done in nine, with time left for dessert.
