I landed in Rome. My suitcase did not. According to the tracking, it had decided to see the world on its own. I’ve traveled with a lot of suitcases, but never one with this much ambition. Here are its updates.

Tracking Updates

Day 1: Suitcase located in Tokyo. I’ve never been to Tokyo with this suitcase. Apparently it goes without me now.

Day 3: Suitcase located in Dubai. It’s somewhere even hotter than Rome. I packed sunscreen in that suitcase. It has my sunscreen.

Day 5: Suitcase located in Oslo. It has seen more of the world this week than most people see in a year.

Day 8: Suitcase located in Rome, at the other airport. Close. Very close.

Day 11: Suitcase delivered to my hotel. It looked rested. I looked like a man who’d worn the same tie for eleven days, which I had. A great tie, but still.

Lessons

Always pack a spare tie in your carry-on. Always be kind to your suitcase. And if your suitcase ever wants to see Tokyo, say yes, and go with it.
