In Barcelona there’s a church they started building in 1882. They’re still building it. This year it reached its full height and became the tallest church in the world. I know why. I visited once, years ago, looked up and said one word: “Taller.”

My Letter to the Builders

Dear Builders,

Congratulations on the height. One hundred seventy-two and a half meters. Beautiful. Pointy. Extremely holy, I assume.

But 144 years is a long time. I build a hotel in eighteen months, and that includes the gold. Some of your cranes have been up there so long they should get their own tower. You need a closer. I’m a closer.

My Suggestions

  • Finish the front. I’d like to see it before my next birthday, and I have a lot of birthdays planned.
  • Add a gold elevator. Every great tower deserves one.
  • Give one tower my name. You say you’re out of towers. Nobody is ever out of towers.

Sincerely, The man who said “taller”
