In Colorado, ski runs are marked by color. Green is easy, blue is medium and black is hard. I tried them all. The green was too easy, the blue was too blue, and the black wasn’t hard enough for a man of my abilities, after the first part. So I designed my own run. Here’s the map.

Trail Map Legend

  • Green circle: Easy. For beginners, and for people who like to be seen.
  • Blue square: Intermediate. For people who own very nice goggles.
  • Black diamond: Expert. For people who say “expert” a lot.
  • Red tie: The Donny Run.

The Donny Run

It starts at the top, next to the hot chocolate. It goes down gently, then even more gently, past the best views on the mountain, and ends at the hot chocolate again. Total length: about one parking lot. Difficulty: legendary.

Lessons

Skiing is easy when you design the mountain. I fell only once, and I’ve decided it was a dramatic stop. People clapped. I believe they were clapping for the stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you ski?

I can stand on skis at the top of a mountain. The rest is gravity's job.

What's après-ski?
