This summer I built my best sandcastle yet: four towers, a moat, a drawbridge made of a flip-flop and a flag on top. I’ve decided to sell it while the market is hot. The tide comes in at four. Here’s my listing.

The Listing

For sale: A stunning castle on the beach, with one careful owner.

Location: Beachfront. Very beachfront. There’s beach in the front, the back and the middle.

Features: Four towers, each with a shell on top. A moat with real seawater, changed twice a day by the ocean. A drawbridge (flip-flop).

Views: The ocean, from every room. Also from inside every room, after four o’clock.

Price: Offers in the region of one ice cream cone.

Viewings: Today only. Please hurry.

The Viewings

At two o’clock, a family stopped to look at it. They said it was lovely, and asked if the ice cream could be a small one. I said I’d think about it.

At three o’clock, a seagull came for a viewing. It walked around every tower, looked into the moat and left without making an offer.

At four o’clock, the tide came in for a look of its own. It took the moat first, then the drawbridge, then the towers, one by one.

The ocean is now the owner. I wasn’t paid, and I never got my ice cream. But the family came back and bought me one anyway, to say sorry for my loss. So in the end, I got my price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was it a good deal?

For the ocean, a wonderful deal. It got a castle for nothing. I've decided to call it a gift.

Will you build another one?

Yes, further up the beach. In property, location is everything.
