San Francisco (A Cookie Bakery)
I Wrote the Messages for a Fortune Cookie Bakery
Fortune cookies need fortunes, and somebody has to write them. I volunteered. The future looks very bright.
A fortune cookie is a crisp little cookie with a slip of paper folded inside, and every slip has a message about your future. Somebody has to write those messages. On a visit to a bakery in San Francisco, I offered to help. They gave me a pen. Here are my fortunes.
My Fortunes
- “You will meet a tall, handsome stranger. It’s me. I’m in the next room.”
- “Good things come to those who wait. Great things come to those in the fast line.”
- “Your lucky numbers are 7, 7, 7 and 7. Why have four numbers when you can have one great one?”
- “A surprise is coming your way. It’s another cookie.”
- “Today is a wonderful day to agree with me.”
- “You will travel far. Bring snacks.”
The Bakery’s Response
The bakery said my messages were very confident. They explained that a fortune is supposed to be about the person reading it, not the person who wrote it. I said that’s the old way of doing things.
In the end, they kept one of mine: “A surprise is coming your way. It’s another cookie.” I’m told people love it, mostly because it’s true.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you read the fortune or eat the cookie first?
Read first. Never eat your future before you know what it says.
Did any fortunes get rejected?
One: "You will win everything." They said fortunes should be believable. I said it's very believable, for me.
