My Backyard (Up the Big Oak)
The Official Rules of My Treehouse
Every great treehouse needs rules, a password and a sign on the door. Mine has all three, plus a waiting list.
This spring, I built a treehouse in the big oak in my backyard. Well, a carpenter built it, and I pointed. It has a ladder, a window, a flag and a rope for emergencies. Every great treehouse needs rules. Here are mine, nailed to the door.
The Rules
- The password is “Donny.” If you forget it, the password is still “Donny.”
- No grown-ups. Except me. I’m the owner, which is different.
- Shoes off at the top. The floor is new. Very nice wood.
- All snacks must be shared. With me.
- Meetings are held every day at four. Attendance is required. I’m the only member, so attendance is excellent.
- The view is free. No view on our street beats it, possibly in town.
- No squirrels. This rule has not been popular with the squirrels.
The Waiting List
Since the treehouse opened, there has been a lot of interest: two neighbors, a cat and one very determined squirrel.
So I’ve started a waiting list. Membership is extremely exclusive. So far, the only member is me, which keeps the meetings short and the snacks plentiful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the treehouse safe?
Very. A real carpenter built it, with a strong railing on every side. I supervised, which is the hardest job.
Can I join?
You can join the waiting list. The squirrel is ahead of you.
