What I Gave a King for His 80th Birthday
Sweden's longest-reigning king turned 80. You can't show up empty-handed.
Sweden’s king turned 80 on April 30. He has reigned since 1973, longer than anyone in Swedish history. There were choirs, a City Hall lunch and a gala banquet with royal guests. You don’t arrive empty-handed. Here’s my gift list.
The List
- A crown polisher. You can’t let a crown get dusty. People notice.
- A cake with 80 candles. And a fire extinguisher, as a second gift. Very practical.
- My autograph, on a beautiful card. Kings collect things. Start with the best.
- A book: “Ruling for Beginners.” Written by me. He doesn’t need it. That’s what makes it a gift.
- A comfortable chair. After fifty-plus years on a throne, he might like something with cushions.
The Card
Happy 80th birthday. More than fifty years on the throne. Very impressive. I’ve been on mine my whole life, but mine is more of a lifestyle. Many happy returns, from Little Donny. P.S. The chair has cup holders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Were you invited?
My invitation is on its way. It has been on its way for a while. Royal mail is very thorough.
What's the hardest part of buying for a king?
He already has a palace. You can't compete with a palace. You can only complement it.
