An escape room is a locked room full of puzzles, codes and hidden keys. Your team has one hour to solve them all and get out. My friends booked one as a treat. The theme was a pirate ship. They wanted to escape. I wanted to be captain.

How It Went

Minute 1. The door locks behind us. Very dramatic. I love it already.

Minute 5. My friends find the first clue, inside a barrel. I find the captain’s hat and put it on.

Minute 20. My friends crack a code on the treasure map. I’m in the captain’s chair, giving a speech.

Minute 40. My friends find a hidden key. I find a hidden drawer full of snacks. It belonged to the staff.

Minute 59. My friends open the last lock. The door swings open. Freedom!

Minute 60. I’m still in the chair.

My Review

Five stars. A beautiful room, very well decorated, with excellent puzzles, or so I’m told.

My friends escaped in 59 minutes, which the staff said was very good. I stayed for 75 minutes, which the staff said was a problem. I call it value for money. Next time I’m booking the room for myself, for the whole afternoon, and I’m not escaping at all.
