Buenos Aires, Argentina (The Judges' Table)
I Judged the World's Biggest Cookie in Buenos Aires
Argentina built a three-ton alfajor and smashed the world record. The official judge measured it. I tasted it. Harder job.
In September, Buenos Aires made the biggest alfajor in history. More than three thousand kilos. Almost seven times the old record. Thousands came to watch. I came to judge, which nobody asked me to do. That’s the best kind of judging.
My Scorecard
Size: Ten out of ten. The old record belonged to a much smaller cookie from Uruguay. Small country, small cookie. That’s not an insult. That’s math.
Caramel: Ten out of ten. There was so much caramel, it had its own weather.
Chocolate: Nine out of ten. I would have used gold leaf. Edible gold. It exists. I’ve eaten a lot of it.
Crumbs: Eleven out of ten. I was covered in them for two days. Very delicious souvenir.
The Official Judge
There was a real judge from the record-book people, with a clipboard. The judge measured the cookie, weighed it and declared the record live, in front of everybody. Very precise. Great clipboard. But no tasting. I tasted it, several times. Someone has to do the hard part.
Final Verdict
World record, confirmed by me. Argentina, you’re welcome to visit me anytime. Bring a cookie. A normal-sized one is fine.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an alfajor?
Two cookies, a lot of caramel, and chocolate on the outside. Basically a sandwich that tells the truth.
Did you eat the whole thing?
Not the whole thing. Five thousand people helped. I supervised them.
